Incorrect Artist Credit

[edit]

Fear of Pop is not a Ben Folds solo record. Fear of Pop is the name of the band, and "Volume 1" is the name of the album.

No, it's technically "Fear of Pop Volume 1" by Ben Folds, even though Folds isn't credited as an artist on the packaging. It's sorta like the fourth Led Zeppelin album, which doesn't have any words on the cover at all. "FOPV1" is a Folds solo record. I, too think the articles should be merged.GuruAskew 03:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nowhere, anywhere, ever is it stated that Fear of Pop's "Volume 1" is a Folds release. In press releases, interviews, anywhere. I am removing the merge label.

EDIT: if you followed the progress of "Fear of Pop Volume 1" back in '98 you'd know that it was always intended to be a solo album and the fanbase was pretty surprised overall that it wasn't credited to Ben Folds on the album packaging. If you do a Google Groups search for "Fear of Pop" and read the posts from 1998 you'll see that it has always been considered a solo Folds album. The press release (which I can't find anywhere but on an archived Google post) is a mess, it refers to the album as a "solo" release, then refers to "Fear of Pop" as a band, then refers to the Music as Folds's, the refers to Folds & Southern as "Fear of Pop". Considering the abiguity of the press release I'm gonna defer to the pre-release statement that it is a Folds solo release.GuruAskew 21:14, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the very first line from the official press release, as still found on Frank Maynard's website:

"Fear Of Pop is Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five) and Caleb Southern. Produced by Ben Folds and Caleb Southern, both of whom are from Chapel Hill, NC."

and then later:

"Fear Of Pop is the band, Volume I is the album."

Fear of Pop is the band. That's what it says on the spine of the record, that's what Folds has said in interviews and it's also what the press release says.

Missing Info

I was missing a bit of info on the production team and chart listings. Any help?--TheGrza 22:27, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

Duplicate?

[edit]

This page duplicates a lot of Fear of Pop, Volume 1. Should one of them become a redirect? slab 01:04, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fear of Pop, Volume 1

[edit]

The Fear of Pop, Volume 1 page had more information and seemed to be more accurate in the information that it had, so I moved that info here. The title of the album does however include the colon, so this is the page kept as the main one, with a redirect placed over there. Below, you will find the talk page posted over at the comma'd article.

Wrong section

[edit]

This album doesn't belong in the Ben Folds Five chronology, as it is a Ben Folds solo disc. --Cholmes75 16:28, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's currently in the Ben Folds chronology.--TheGrza 08:50, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cover Art

[edit]

I've read nothing to make me think that Ben Folds is actually the running figure in the cover art. The packaging art for all of Volume I was done by David Bethell from his series "Just Your Average Second On This Planet" (1997-1998). This is according to the liner notes for the album. I, for one, seriously doubt Ben Folds posed for one of Bethell's images, and there is no citation in the article--looks like a simple opinion to me.Funkeboy 11:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm taking it out--pure conjecture. Funkeboy 00:31, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
