"Catiline"
[edit]In the quotation from Mirabeau, I can't find an appropriate article to link for "Catiline". I wouldn't be surprised if we have something under another form of the name; I presume the reference is to ancient Rome. Does anyone know what individual is referred to? -- Jmabel 01:43, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)
- See Catiline, an article on the Roman Lucius Sergius Catilina (108 BC–62 BC). Jhobson1 (talk) 13:59, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
National Assemlby HELP****
[edit]HI Im doing a report on the National Assembly.... I need help... What exactly was it??? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.9.95.234 (talk • contribs) 11 Jan 2006.
- Gosh, that's pretty much what the article is about. What, specifically, do you want to know that isn't there? You might also want to read Estates-General of 1789 and National Constituent Assembly. --- Jmabel | Talk 00:14, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
somewhat obscure question
[edit]Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were too young to marry at the age of 15 yrs. So to be honest they did it at that age and she had her first child which was a boy. Aww at the age of 15 yrs. How exciting!24.4.20.65 01:41, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Salle des États. It's in Estates-General of 1789. - Jmabel | Talk 06:30, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
left wing / right-wing
[edit]Some say the origin of the words "left-wing" and "right-wing" originate at this assembly. http://ask.yahoo.com/20011217.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.122.119.33 (talk) 20:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
National Assembly existed from June 17 to July 9, 1793
[edit]Is this correct? it wasn't in 1789? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.143.236.57 (talk) 00:26, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm no expert on the French Revolution, but...
[edit]I see original research in this article. "Perhaps if he had..." is generally not a good thing to say in any Wikipedia article. - Jg2904 (Talk) 23:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. I think I'll merge the info in to other sentences and remove the opinion. And is sparknotes a valid source?--128.243.236.10 (talk) 11:43, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
Expansion of membership
[edit]The assembly started as the elected third estate. I can understand members of the 1st and second estates joining them - "joined by some of the nobles and the majority of the clergy. Bit what of "other people such as the peasants"? These were not elected members?203.80.61.102 (talk) 07:41, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Convened, but had no power
[edit]At this stage the 3rd estate had no independent power. The claim that it "consolidated the public debt and declared all existing taxes to have been illegally imposed, but voted in these same taxes provisionally" is surely wrong.203.80.61.102 (talk) 07:44, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
For the merger debate...
[edit]Though I believe the National Assembly and the National Constituent Assembly shared many characteristics (and in principle were very similar), I'd have to disagree with the merger solely because they are two officially different governing bodies of different times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FrankJoeman (talk • contribs) 00:45, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed that not the same, so closed proposal. Klbrain (talk) 22:58, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Jmabel, FrankJoeman and Klbrain https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembl%C3%A9e_nationale_constituante_(1789) appears to deal with both in one article. Mcljlm (talk) 18:27, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- Still seems to me that there is enough of a distinction and enough substance to this article that it is worth keeping the two separate. If anything, for Anglophone readers it is all the more useful to separate out these different entities, because the topic is new to so many Anglophones, and the distinctions are easily lost. The French had this in school; we, for the most part, did not. - Jmabel | Talk 18:35, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
