[edit]the page appeared to be a conglomerate of copy/pastes from other websites, so I did a few hours or research and rewrote all of it except the section on the Village of Masouleh. I don't have time to research and work on that one. The page is much shorter now, as I turned the history section into a timeline, mostly due to lack of time. But I figured it was better to have a short timeline than a long entry of disjointed copy/pastes. Also, the CIA factbook has a pdf map (public domain since it's part of the CIA factbook) that includes the city. I just don't know how to add pictures yet. Dreamingkat 00:24, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
Copy edited the language section and wish someone would check for errors.
[edit]I didn't quite understand all of it so I had to make some guesses. Please do change any errors I made. I do apologize. KarenAnn 20:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, the Chinichian Caravanserai should be listed under Historical and Natural attractions. It is documented under many historic studies of Rasht.

Name(s)
[edit]Seems like there isn't remotely enough on this place in English.
A) Rašt is the past-tense root of reštan (to spin yarn and not really to weave apparently) but there's an identically spelled verb raštan that also means to dye and would've been a more prominent industry at any point before the late 19th century. No English source either way, just other pages cribbing this unsourced and currently very informal article.
B) This non-RS Iranian travel agency mentions that an earlier name was "Rasht Bazar" (i.e., Rašt Bâzâr) which the present name would clearly be a clipping of and would work with either textile derivation. Everything else on the internet only seems to use that name for the bazaar in present-day Rasht, though.
C) The same source also lists Daralaman, Darlemerz, and Varna (?!) as previous names. This source, also Iranian, lists the city's previous names as Daralaman, Daralmorz, and Bihar (?!). Without elaboration, it attributes Rasht to some reference to its defensible position between two rivers. This blog, also within Iran, lists Daralaman, Daralamarh, and Lahijan Almbark as previous names of Lehijan, not Rasht.
Can anyone read enough reliable Persian sources to clean this mess up? Everything else on the internet in English is copying us right now. — LlywelynII 11:38, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
- Persian sources are not much better in terms of copyright. but 8day news.com allows using the information as long as we cite it as the source (despite all rights reserved tag).
