Aerial bombing

[edit]

Is it right to put

  1. Bombing of Dresden in World War II
  2. Bombing of Tokyo in World War II

in this category?--Ot 13:27, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No. They should go in a suitable "Bombing" category. Carcharoth 09:43, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Since their categorization as massacres would cause endless edit wars they should be categorized under Category:Aerial bombing, or its subcategories such as Category:Firebombing or Category:Strategic bombing. I put a "See also" link to Category:Aerial bombing from Category:Massacres. --Timeshifter (talk) 11:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name of category

[edit]

There was a renaming/deletion discussion that proposed the deletion of this cateogry (see above). There was no consensus, but it would seem useful to restrict the articles here to those with the word massacre in the title. My idea is that the other synonyms (see Massacre) could be categorised separately by whatever they are called (the redirects could also be categorised this way), and then all of them grouped together under a more neutral title. This would be a preliminary reorganisation to see if any order can be brought to the category. Does this sound OK? Carcharoth 09:42, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

agree. "massacre" is a far too emotional term for encyclopedic categorization. This is pov pushing by category title. split into categories dealing with "mass murder", "mob killings", "communal violence" and the like. Failing all else, substitute "massacre" with "killing", since the only objective feature of a "massacre" is that some people are killed. dab (𒁳) 18:56, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

disagree. if reliable sources attest to the branding of something as a massacre, then the categorization is encyclopedic.Bakaman 01:39, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
